VISA（びざ）は日本語（にほんご）では、査証（さしょう）といいます。
査証（さしょう）は上陸審査（じょうりくしんさ）を受（う）けるための必要書類（ひつようしょるい）の一つ（ひとつ）であり、日本（にほん）への入国（にゅうこく）を保証（ほしょう）するものではありません。日本到着時（にほんとうちゃくじ）に入国審査官（にゅうこくしんさかん）によって上陸（じょうりく）の許否（きょひ）が決定（けってい）されます。
A visa is one of the documents required for the landing inspection, but it does not guarantee entry into Japan. After arriving in Japan, an immigration inspector will decide whether or not you can land.
従って（したがって）、VISA（びざ）の有効期限（ゆうこうきげん）とは上陸審査（じょうりくしんさ）を受ける（うける）ために使用（しよう）できる期限（きげん）であり、日本（にほん）での在留資格（ざいりゅうしかく）・在留期間（ざいりゅうきかん）はVISA（びざ）ではなく、上陸許可（じょうりくきょか）によって定められます（さだめられます）。
Therefore, the validity period of the visa is the period during which you can use it to undergo the landing inspection, and your residence status and period of stay in Japan are determined by the landing permission, not the visa.
